Political structure
- Official name: République démocratique du Congo
- Form of state: Unitary republic based on the 2005 constitution
- Semi-presidential republic
- The semi-presidential system established by the constitution is largely borrowed from the French constitution. Although it is the prime minister and parliament that oversee much of the nation’s actual lawmaking, the president wields significant influence, both formally and from constitutional convention. The president holds the nation’s most senior office, and outranks all other politicians.

National legislature
- The 500-seat National Assembly began sitting in January 2019, after the December 2018 election;
- A 108‑seat Senate was elected by the provincial assemblies in March 2019

- The Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC; 345 seats), an alliance of parties supporting Joseph Kabila, includes among others

- the Parti lumumbiste unifié (Palu);
- the Cap pour le changement (CACH; 48 seats), a platform supporting Félix Tshisekedi, includes
- Mr Tshisekedi’s Union pour la démocratie et le progrès social (UPDS) and
- Vital Kamerhe’s Union pour la nation congolaise (UNC); and
- Lamuka (107 seats), an alliance of parties supporting Martin Fayulu and Moïse Katumbi
