Tunisia, officially the Republic of Tunisia, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa, covering 163,610 square kilometres. Its northernmost point, Cape Angela, is also the northernmost point on the African continent. It achieved independence from France on March 20, 1956. The State was established as a constitutional monarchy with the Bey of Tunis, Muhammad VIII al-Amin Bey, as the king of Tunisia.
Over the past decade, Tunisia had an average annual growth of around 5%, but the economy stalled following the political, economic and geopolitical upheaval which has affected the country since 2009. In 2019, GDP grew 1.5%, at a slower pace than 2018. This is mainly due to a slowdown in agriculture and a contraction in industry (oil and gas, agrobusiness). However, growth in the service sector partially compensates the slowdown. According to the IMF, GDP growth rate should increase to 2.4%% and 2.9% in 2020 and 2021. The forecasted growth is to be supported by better results in agriculture, manufacturing and tourism sectors and reform plans to improve the investment climate.

Rally around to the glory of our time! The blood surges in our veins, We die for the sake of our land. 1. Let the heavens roar with thunder Let thunderbolts rain with fire. Men and youth of Tunisia, Rise up for her might and glory. No place for traitors in Tunisia, Only for those who defend her! We live and die loyal to Tunisia, A life of dignity and a death of glory. Chorus 2. As a nation we inherited Arms like granite towers. Holding aloft our proud flag flying, We boast of it, it boasts of us, Arms that achieve ambitions and glory, Sure to realize our hopes, Inflict defeat on foes, Offer peace to friends. Chorus 3. When the people will to live, Destiny must surely respond. Oppression shall then vanish. Fetters are certain to break. Chorus |
