The African continent is sub-grouped into 5 major regions: North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa and Southern Africa. The country demarcations are largely a remnant of colonialism and the “scramble for Africa” that took place in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The absurd result sometimes being members of one family finding themselves in two different countries.
