Like other major industries in the country, the mining industry is primarily controlled by the King who has delegated his responsibility to the Minerals Committee. The Eswatini mining industry contributed roughly 2% to the country’s gross domestic product. Minerals that can be mined include:
- Asbestos
- Coal
- Clay
- Cassiterite
- Small gold and diamond deposits
- Quarry stone
- Talc
Other natural resources include:
- Hydropower
- Forestry
- Farming (10.71% of the country is arable land)
- Sugar cane: Eswatini is Africa’s fourth largest producer of sugar and the 25thlargest globally
- Tobacco
