Côte d’Ivoire

Travel & Accommodation

The Felix-Houphouet Boigny International Airport (ABJ) has daily scheduled flights to and from Paris (Air France and Corsair), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Brussels (Brussels Airlines), and Dubai (Emirates). There are also semi-weekly flights to Cairo (Egyptian Air), Casablanca (Royal Air Maroc) and Johannesburg (South African Airways).

There are also regular flights to other West-African capitals. The airport is a modern facility and increased security has shaken its old reputation as a place for travelers to be ripped off. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the most highly taxed in West Africa, with an average of $90 in taxes and fees added to the cost of every international ticket.

Accommodation

Abidjan has a comprehensive representation of many international brands with more being added annually. Your 5-star options are Hotel Tiama ($200-$250) and the Pullman in the CBD, the Sofitel Hotel ($250-$300) as well as Radisson Blu ($150-$200), which is approximately 2 minutes from the Airport. The Ivotel and the Ibis ($120-$150) provide slightly cheaper options with other local (but decent) options also providing great value for money ($70-$120)

Yamoussoukro is slightly more limited when it comes to accommodation but a good (the main) option is the President Hotel. ($200-$400). Other smaller hotels or BnBs are available in the area.

The real challenge arises when leaving these centres in order to head further inland (North and West) to the mining hubs (Man) or the Port town of San Pedro (second port in Côte d’Ivoire). Local advice is recommended before embarking.
