Travel & Accommodation

The Blaise Diagne International Airport is the main port of entry into Dakar. The Airport is brand new (completed in December 2017). It is located 43 kilometers from Dakar.

Senegal is easily accessible from European countries. The main european airlines servicing this airport are Air France, TAP (Air Portugal) and Turkish Airlines. Other airlines that route through Europe are Brussels Airlines (Brussels), Air Senegal International (Paris-Orly), Alitalia (Milan), Royal Air Maroc (Casablanca) and Iberia (Madrid, Gran Canaria). Delta Air Lines flies to Dakar on most of their US-Africa services, service from Atlanta and JFK airport takes roughly 8 hours.

African Airlines include ASKY, South African Airways, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines. There are other regional flights from various parts of West Africa operated by Arik (Lagos) and Air Ivoire (Abidjan).

Accommodation

Dakar has a comprehensive representation of many international brands with more being added annually. As your 5-star options, you have a choice between Radisson Blu hotels (Diamniadio and Sea Plaza) at $300-$400. The Pullman is also represented ($250-$350) as is Novotel ($250-$350). The Ibis ($120-$150) provides slightly cheaper options with other local (but decent) options also providing great value for money ($70-$120).

The real challenge arises when leaving Dakar in order to head further inland. Local advice is recommended before embarking.
